The stillness...

When it snows, I look for changes in the landscape, the architecture, the sky.
3 years ago when I was in Toronto in the spring, I visited
the beautiful, Edwardian cemetery Mount Pleasant.
It began in 1876 and is one of Canada's most historic cemeteries.
When the snow started to fly, I knew I wanted to see this place in the winter.
Some may think it odd but I love these places of stillness.
They are green spaces in the midst of concrete and glass.
A quiet place to wander and reflect...
Because of the large amount of Irish immigrants,
this cemetery in particular is full of beautiful Celtic crosses...
And of course the Angels...
Some of the mausoleums are architectural works of art...
We spent a few hours here wandering around and enjoying the peaceful blanket
covering the past...
Truly a haven in the middle of bustle and busyness

I could stand in these places for ever,(I guess I will someday.) with the snow, the starkness, the finality.
The first photo reminds me of Germany. It's just beautiful.
Lovely photos all.
Happy New Year, my friend.

I think a lot of photographers like rambling in old graveyards -I know I do.
This one is beautiful, especially under the carpet of snow. The Celtic Crosses are particularly poignant reminders of those who died far from their native land.

Hello Kerry! I have missed your posts since you've been back east. :) These photos are beautiful. And you're right, some of the mausoleums are truly exquisite works of art. I love the snow covered, otherwise bare trees. Gorgeous and sculptural..

there is stillness in these photographs, also space to be still.

i love cemeteries. I love to photograph cemeteries.

in knoxville, tennessee, i had huge fun capturing the headstones, only to have a glitch in my downloading process. I lost all of my precious pictures. it was a civil war cemetery.

happy new year.

We don't get a lot of snow but I have a folder full of images of frost-covered plants, trees, and grasses. I can't get enough of the sparkle that lasts until the morning sun melts it all away and it transforms all the leftover dead and bristly plants and brush into works of art.
