This was the face of a poor, scruffy, very ill kitten found behind our barn about 4 weeks ago...
Abandoned by her stray mother, we took her in and went through much healing together.
Her recovery helped distract us from the very large hole that was our beloved dog Griffin.
With one eye ruptured and the other without sight her future was very precarious...
But in time and with so much help from friends, family and some people whom I've never met,
Sweet Georgia has come a long way indeed!!
The removal of one eye was scary but probably more for us than her.
It never stopped her from being a regular kitten who plays, eats, poops, sleeps
and repeats these actions as if nothing ever happened.
Her 'Curious Georgesness' has kept us both entertained and alert...
Baby animals, I'm reminded, are a lot of work!!
But this baby animal is special.
After the removal of one eye it was 'iffy' to know if the sight in the remaining eye would ever return.
It was a cloudy mess but with antibiotics, lots of rest, good food and loads of love, I had big hopes!
I tried to remain optimistic and believed in the healing power of positive thinking...
It started to look a little better day by day and I knew she was beginning to see light and movement.
Sometimes it was sound that attracted her until one day she was sitting on the floor and jumped
up on the back of the couch to directly in front of this picture and took a swipe at it!
I knew then that it wasn't just light, or sound but a thing she could SEE!
As the days rolled by, her vision became better and better...
She stopped having kitten nightmares.
She used to wake up in the middle of a deep sleep,
literally crying until I would call to her and pat her and she would fall right back asleep.
No doubt having traumatic, horrible thoughts of her life in the wilds of
our property with no mom and no sight.
Like all cats, she LOVES the sun...
...and curtains are the best place to play hide and seek...
...not to mention the perfect spot for a nap.
In fact there's many great spots for a nap!
We've been slowly introducing her to the outside world again and our upper deck is
perfect for that. Tom enclosed it to keep her safe...
Rueben is warming up to her, although Georgia is very ballsy and Rueben
has to remind her of who's boss around this kingdom...C'mon Rueben, Chillax... she's just a kid from the rough side of town, she'll get better, just have some patience!
Her world is an adventure playground...
Her mantra is Queen of the Jungle...
So now the stitches have finally come out and
even though she is a bit lopsided looking, she has no idea!
Her tiny kitten body is squeezed into a lion sized attitude.
You have no idea how much joy I feel when I see her watching the world around her...
To think she could have died out there or lost both eyes.
So thanks to Tom for finding her again, thanks to all of you out there who have contributed
to the recovery of this little angel devil miracle...
And thank you Sweet Georgia for finding us at just the right time.
