Tiny noises...

Past rusty railroad tracks...
 ...up the unused drive...
...where once you could hear voices and farm plows,
it's only the sounds of us and the pups and the birds.
We meander where busy lives once existed...
Sapsuckers are the busy ones now...
The colours, the textures of the past greet us at the gate...
Someone long ago took time to plant these wee autumn crocus' and
for many years watched them come up every September...
These are scenes from a life abandoned...
Tiny noises play in our heads...
...the low of cattle, the cluck of chickens
For a hundred years this was a place...
...linked strongly to a life of farming
 Now weathered and disappearing...
What happens when lives fade away?
 It was a home...
And as always we look closer...
try to hear those distant voices...
Wishing the grasses would rustle up the story through the breeze...
 But the sounds grow fainter...
The past keeps her stories to herself for now
But this life abandoned has had some visitors today, who think about it,
wonder and maybe keep the tiny noises turned up again, just a notch or two.

Two fat geese and a gallon of milk...

Remember the little blue and white sweater I was needle felting?
And the milk maid head in the bucket?
They are finally together along with her cow, her two fat geese
and her gallon of milk.
The milk maid's name is Marge...a young version of my late grandma who
grew up on a farm on Saltspring Island.
Lot's of little details to look for...handmade fimo gumboots, hand made collar and
rope line for the cow, wet felted apron, tiny buttons, up cycled wood bucket
filled with a secret milk look-a-like, cow eyelashes (of course a cow's got to have them!)
The geese were so much fun I may make a whole gaggle of them someday!
Anyway they're off to be judged for the Sooke Fine Arts show along with
my oriole whom I tweaked and changed him from standing to take off mode
on an old piece of honey suckle branch and sent off as well...
It's always a bit strange for me to put these pieces out since they truly come from my
heart and my dreams. I love to create them and am honoured to find out
that others love them just as much for reasons of their own.
Wish me luck!

Milk run...

Yesterdays excursion to pick up the milk turned joyous!
I brought Regina along so we could take the dogs for a walk
and then afterwards it was off to the farm.
The 'girls' were in the barn chomping down on fresh hay.
Regina was very pleased to meet them...
You know how W.C Fields once said:
"Never work with children or animals" ?
I think part of it is because they'll upstage you every time,
but it's also evident in these pictures that they tend to move around a lot!
The barn is a bit dark as well but I kind of like these photos.
It gives me the sense of the characters of these girls quite well...munchy, bossy and curious...
Look at these gorgeous sunflowers and glads that VV was putting down
by the road for sale!!
We were lucky enough to bring home a few other goodies with the milk...
By the way, the top 3" in the milk jug is cream!
Yeah baby! Real....thick...cream!
My veggie garden has been shite this year so I'll just keep on
supporting the local growers, doing what they do best...
As you can see I had already had 2 big salads before I took some photos, so
the mixed greens are just about gone.
The tomatoes were absolutely delicious!
Warm and juicy!
I'll make some of those beans for dinner tonight...
That there is homemade cheese!
Oh so creamy and tasty...
And if we only had 'smellivision' on our computers, you
would be in heaven with the scent of fresh basil!
I'm as happy as a clam!
