...and out came the wicked, wise and wonderful!

They came from all around, surrounding the shop with their spells and charms...
Some came in pairs...
Baring their teeth...
Whiskers twitching and tails flicking...

Some came with their Father...Hans Solo not looking impressed with the candy selection...
Dressed to the nines...
Others came in threes...it's a magic number!
Devilishly cute!
Odd little companions roaming the streets together...
Best dressed trio in the west!
Some came in flying and cawing in a murder...
Others braved the eve all on their own...
Robotic ingenuity...
Some had lost pieces of their disguise but were just as lovely!
Who's afraid of spiders? Not this little witch, nope not at all!
Even the reality shows became a reality...Duck Dynasty anyone?...
Who says batman has to be a boy and wear black?!
HOT DIGGITY DOG!
Mermaids climbed out of the sea to come pay a visit...
...and owls were all a flutter before the sun went down...
 ...does whatever a spider can!
Some just came along for the ride with moms that really got into the act...
Even my boss got in on the action...creepiest mask ever!
All in all though a good time was had by all!!!
Till next year little goblins!

Catch up and a sneak peak...

I have been away for a few days tending to Minnie Mouse...
Carving big orange vegetables...
It's been many years since I foraged out into suburban neighbourhoods
with a small hand in mine, dodging Spiderman and fending off lions
and bears. Although it's quite a ways from us including a ferry ride,
I take on these challenges of stepping in where my sister can't anymore with bittersweet feelings.
My trips back home are a tad heavy with feelings of loss still,
but also and always with a great sense of love for these girls.
But now it's home again and back working on a bit of an involved piece for Etsy.
Just a sneak peak for now...
Have a great weekend all.
Hug who you love.

The olden days...

That's what we use to say when we were kids, talking about ancient times..."back in the olden days".
As the trees begin to go to sleep for the winter and the air is crisp and cool,
I am in a melancholy mood.
I know that my nieces and nephews are thinking of Halloween and I am thinking of my own childhood days getting prepared for the BIG NIGHT.
We didn't buy costumes, EVER!
We made, begged, borrowed or just about stole whatever we needed.
(one of those 'last minute mime' costumes)
(Stephanie Jones and I in our' not so politically correct' costumes)
(brother Jeff, pirate style...notice the bulky coat under dad's t-shirt)
Hobo's, gypsies, princess' witches and ghosts were other, popular choices.
There were some kids who might buy a costume of a simple plastic cape thing that had to fit over warm clothing.
Along with it came a cheap mask with eye holes and barely a hole to breath out of.
My neighbour always had this type of costume, and I envied her until I tried on the mask and nearly died from the sweat and stench of my own breath, suffocating me.
I lived in the city and always went out with siblings or friends.
Our parents could trust the world we lived in.
Filling up a pillow case, at least half way, was our biggest worry.
The only thing we weren't allowed to keep were those dangerous apples.
It was in the first days of razor blade scares.
Now kids are driven to the mall for trick or treating.
Costumes are elaborate, ghoulish, sexy and store bought.
I'm happy to have lived in these simpler times...'the olden days'.
