The water pearl spinners...

The rain today was ‘soft’. That's what the Irish say.
The Scottish may call it ‘smirr’, a gentle rain or maybe ‘harr’, a mist from the sea…
any way you put it the moisture left a silver coating on any spider web
otherwise invisible the day before...
This day showed off delicate pearls strung together along silken wires...
...a tightrope balancing act designed by eight legged engineers. A bridge builders dream...
The webs would billow slightly on the softest breeze and still they stayed in tact…
If not, tomorrow there’ll be another. Woven through the night, strung between any two anchors that serve the spider well.
A place of silent capture, of hours of patient waiting, anticipating another meal.
And all I can do is marvel in my love of the design…
...my thrill to see these webs highlighted by a simple rain.
A thing I didn’t see the day before. A thing I walked into clumsily only last week…

Heaven in a raindrop...

Last night it rained!
This may not seem like a big deal to those of us in these sodden lands
but this summer has been probably the lowest rainfall in recent memory.
But enough doom and gloom...I am rejoicing in last night...
I woke in the middle of the night to the soft, unmistakeable sound of a steady downpour.
I lay in bed with a sigh of utter pleasure...glorious rain!
This morning everything was coated in heavenly droplets of moisture...
The earth exhaled...
...took a big drink...
Hopefully there's more on it's way.
The garden is smiling...
...the Virginia Creeper has donned her fall blush, reminding us of whats to come...
Even our little pirate's smirk is brighter...Sweet Georgia loves water.
She will purposely run under the sprinkle of a hose to get wet.
So all is well for now in her little kingdom.

...back again

And so here we are, back again to the present day...
rain and drizzle under pewter skies.
Even though it was wet and dreary out, I took my camera with me on my errand
to pick up the milk at the farm.
The ducks were happy in the rain but were all a flutter while I was there...
It was like an army of squawking, flapping, curious feathered soldiers
came to inspect just exactly what I was doing on THEIR farm!
These are Muscovy ducks, native to Mexico, Central and South America...
They have strange, fleshy bits on their heads that makes them look rather scary...
This little gal was happy under a bit of shelter...
How's this for a handsome couple...
If you're a duck I suppose...
The dairy cows were hanging out in the pasture...
Here is Canella and her calf she had last summer...

Hello!
This farm is over a hundred years old and has some of those lovely aged features...
...weathered wood...
 ..rusty bits...
...my favorite, mossy rock walls...
I could never get enough of these when I was in Ireland...

Definite signs of spring are on the way!
Inside one of the barns it was just me and the old truck...
 hello again!
So there you go...a few bright faces to lighten up the low skies
