What lies beneath...

Lately I've been thinking a lot about two people, whom I love dearly, who have decided to separate.
Seems that there is always one voice stronger than the other...the one who 'just isn't happy'.
On my walk today I encountered this little bridge...
It got me thinking that, yes, things always have different views.
From above it is a straight road where you can see whats coming...
Upon further investigation, underneath the concrete and steel beams...
...it's a complex, richly textured and detailed scenario.
We carry so much within that is rarely seen.
Sometimes we allow others to experience this hidden dimension...
Others pass by, oblivious to the goings on...
Some keep it well concealed.
Some look deep down but jump back up for fear of this underworld.
We may swim along upstream with another and battle the currents, the low and high tides.
Or grab on to the nearest tree limb and pull ourselves to shore...seemingly to 'safety'.
Distractions, leading you up the bank to forget the one who's floating away.
Or that moment in time when you discover what lies beneath.
What it is that keeps your heart tethered to another.

after 30 years, i would say commitment,
kindness, and loyalty. it is so difficult
to discern my own heart at times, how
can i possible discern another's?

it is true, unfortunately, that the one
who loves the least, tends to have the
most power.

it should be the other way around.

sorry about your friends.
